Dr. Marksman's practice focuses on patient's with difficult to diagnose orofacial pain problems, temporomandibular joint pain problems and sleep apnea patients who cannot tolerate the CPAP use.

Referred patients are normally treated for their pain issues and then are referred back to their dentist for regular care. Pain issues treated include trigeminal neuralgia, burning mouth syndrome, atypical odontalgia, and atypical facial pain.

Temporomandibular joint issues include, jaw pain, jaw-joint pain, TMJ pain, closed lock and opened lock jaw problems. Jaw muscle pain problems (myofascial pain) are often associated with TMJ.

CPAP intolerant patients can have a dental device to replace the mask and machine. CPAP problem patients can therefore be made more comfortable during sleep.

Dental headache is sometimes caused by bruxing and clenching as are migraine headaches. Intraoral stabilizing devices often help to alleviate such pain as does prescription medications.

  • Fewer than one-third of Americans know the proper brushing recommendations and only 34% floss daily.

  • Smoking can lower the chances of success with some dental treatments. Studies show that smokers have worse gums, deeper pockets and more bone loss. While smokers can have successful dental implants, they tend to heal slowly, have more infections, and experience more problems with their implants.
